IOSH Driving for Work - Course Syllabus

What is the course about?

This 3.5 hour course provides essential information about the responsibilities relating to driving for work for those who drive their own or hired vehicles during the course of their normal working day.  It includes the reasons why crashes occur, relevant legislation, employee and management responsibilities and strategies for safer and more economical driving.

Licenced driver. Those who drive their own or hired vehicles during the normal working day.  Aimed at all employee levels and management roles.

 

Prior knowledge

Course objectives:

 

  • Know your legal responsibilities as drivers.
  • Be able to identify the main reasons why crashes occur
  • Have knowledge of the driving for work legislation.
  • Know the Manager’s and Employee’s responsibilities for driving at work.
  • Understanding of a range of safer and economical driving practices.
  • Be able to apply safer and economical driving techniques to your driving.

 

 

What will the delegates learn?

  • An introduction to legislation with regards to driving
  • Common causes of road crashes
  • Employer and employee responsibilities
  • Eco Driving, driving plans and strategies for better driving
  • Fatal 4:
  1. Impairment - such as drink and drugs
  2. Distractions - such as mobile phones
  3. Speed
  4. Seatbelts

Course content:

Leaning is assessed throughout the session with individual and group formative assessment techniques including observations, games, feedback and direct questioning.


Final summative assessment is by way of a test and completion of the delegate handbook.
